Career Path

As far as my "career path" is concerned I believe I am on it and am close to going beyond Indiana, PA to NYC. It is there, which I plan to work within adult education as an instructional designer or corporate trainer. I have learned many valuable lessons in my pursuit of my MA and gained valuable experience as Technology Manager at IUP and as ESL Instructor for Adults at ARIN IU28. I consider myself lucky to have acquired a wealth of working experience which may give me a leading edge among the competition.

In my role as Technology Manager at Eberly School of Business and Information Technology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania I've had the opportunity to work with several teams of talented individuals. Coordinating and working with Lab Managers, Research and Development, and Graphic Art teams, we cover a large range of services to faculty and students. I manage not only my own time sensitive projects myself but initiating, guiding, and assisting individuals within groups and individual projects is part of my daily routines. I have gained valuable insight on leadership and teamwork in my role at Eberly.

Some of you may have not know, I also work part time as an ESL Instructor for Adults at ARIN IU28. ARIN IU28 is an intermediate unit, we provide educational support to learners of all ages in Armstrong and Indiana Counties. I am fortunate to instruct conversational English and culture to a great group of international individuals who make up our community. They are passionate about learning and our class is like a breath of fresh air. Instructing at ARIN has caused me to advance me in planning and delivering content to adult learners while in pursuit of my Masters of Arts in Adult Education and Communication Technology.

These opportunities through at IUP and ARIN IU28 have provided the benefit of daily reflection on my personal practice as an instructor, instructional designer and manager. I feel like I am prepared to take my career to the next level and encourage others to do so. If you feel insecure about how you fit in, strongly consider taking action to get on your career path. One of the best ways is through volunteer work. That is how I landed my job at ARIN IU28. Ask your departmental faculty where you may find the right opportunity. You will discover that volunteering can be priceless, give it a try. And good luck to you all on your "career path."

Career Path

Because I have two majors I plan on furthering my education in both degrees. With the way this economy is going things are only going to get harder and harder and soon a college degree will be equivalent to a high school degree so getting my MBA and Psy.D. is very important to me. All I honestly want to do is take care of my mother, as age slowly climbing up the latter for her I do not want her to do any hard labor work. I just want her to enjoy the rest of the time she has here on earth, simply put "live off my money."
After college I am considering joining the Navy or the Air Force because not only because I've always wanted to be a pilot but I feel like there's a lot more opportunity's joining after getting a college degree. While finishing my contract I will then go for my MBA in International Relation because being from Haiti I want to own a couple business out there and start a non profit org for that I plan starting here in the US first. After getting my MBA I will then purse my Psy.D degree in Neuropsychology. Dont think it will be right after but definitely later on in my late 30'S or 40's to keep this brain constantly making new neurons to decrease the chances of me getting dementia. I also would like to help my mom start a school in haiti. She always wanted her own school so that would be really nice if I can do that. This is my career path and my way of becoming a successful man.

Career Path

Finding the right career path for me was challenging at the beginning of my college experience. I was not sure what I liked and what I was good at. It was only after I started working with technology when I discovered that I had a passion for it. I tried to learn as much as I could in the last two years of college so I could graduate and apply my skills to a suitable job position. Now that I have almost finalized with my studies at IUP, I feel more confident and ready to take on a job that will allow me to combine my business and technical skills.

Career Path..

My career path, my choices.. I often seriously sit and wonder how will I make it to where I want to go... Sometimes I kick myself wishing I'd started sooner.. I don't really know how I'm going to get there.. I do know where I want to be.. I think that my plan of hopefully submitting to some film festivals and doing an internship with the U.K. would definitely be beneficial and help me take that first step to where I need to be.. But nothing's for sure.. Sometimes I wonder if I'm too much of a dreamer and spend too much time in fantasy land.. But most times, I know.. I'm somehow headed in the right direction.. Everyone takes missteps but, I think for the most part, I'm going to where I need to be.. -fingers crossed-

My Career Plans (as of right now)

I am an English and Religious Studies major. My plans regarding what to do with these programs of study change faster than the weather, but I am pretty sure at this point I am planning to pursue an MA in Theology with an emphasis on Biblical Studies following my undergrad. With that, I’d like to work as a director of formation or religious education within a faith based organization and design curriculums for catechism based on social justice and radical Catholic social teaching along the lines of Dorothy Day (if you don’t know who she is, look her up! Her story is amazing.). I’m also thinking about getting an MFA in either poetry or fiction somewhere down the line and trying to get published (easier said than done).

Career Path

Majoring in Criminology has not made me want to become a police officer, although the path I want to go into I have to do 3 years of service before I can actually do my dream job. My dream job would be to become a criminal investigator. Recently, actually just yesterday, something may have changed that. I realized that becoming a criminal investigator I would be able to help find out why people commit crime, harm people, etc. but I wouldn't be stopping them. There is a video I watched, some may have heard of it, some may have not. It's called Kony 2012, it's about a Ugandan man who abducts children for his own personal army. As much as I could go on about this subject, it's better if you just watch the video. (http://vimeo.com/invisible/kony2012) From watching this video, I realized I still want to be a criminal investigator, but I want to be able to stop the "bad guys" from harming anyone else, I want to save someone, I want to make a difference in someones life. As far fetch as that dream may be, I plan to do something about it.

Career Path

The time has finally come, to decide what I want to do with my major. I'm open to a lot of new ideas in the technology field to see where that takes me. I used to be a computer science major but I switched to MIS. I think I just want to see were life takes me. Right now, I'm currently job hunting in the Pittsburgh Area. I've always loved technology and I like the Pittsburgh so  I think that'll be a good fit for me to start my career, where ever that maybe.

Career Path

I have always been thinking of a good definition for the word"Career" , when I graduated from my under-graduate school I did not think for a moment that I am going to work only in my field of study ! . I felt confident that I would be able to work wherever I find myself able to get the job done as it should be.
My first job started at a big company in Jordan which is Americana company for restaurants and tourism projects , My job was to study the places where they will open new restaurants, collect information about the area, analyze the customers preferences and desires, and then make a recommendations . I did my job and I almost was spending half of my day roaming those areas and meeting with people ,and my recommendations hit the target and exceeded the desired outcomes from my bosses.
My second job was very important, I was interviewed by the International Airport top level officials to be a supervisor of the VIP passengers services. I got the job after three interviews and started working and dealing with high level passengers from all over the world . I stayed in that job for one year and a half .
My third job was the one I loved which is teaching , I read an announcement for a job in UAE ,they were looking for a supervisor and business teacher , I applied , I was interviewed twice one in person and one on phone and I was given a test and finally got the contract .I went there and I taught for two academic year and I loved it .
Therefore, I find it interesting when talking about career , that does not mean I have to stick with my field of study but always when I think of my career or what I am looking for ,I will ask two questions and then match the answers if they match I will go ahead and take it if not then I am not gonna take it : what is my strength I mean what is my core of competence ? what does the job need done?

My Career Path

I'm a Management Information System major student. I just love solving IT problems and doing business at the same time. I was really lucky to be given opprtunitys to create my own career path. When I was in middle school, one of my mum's friend who owned a IT company invited me to help out in her office. I learned so much from the technician. Since that, I fell in love with IT. I even went for classes to learn some basic. I started to fix my computers and figure out new problems. Also, I was offered to work in Eberly RND for awhile and that experience was precious. I learned a lot from there and even working in the computer lab now I was being challenge by some students with computer problems. It was just so interesting to me to able to work on different scenario everytime. I'm still not a professional now but I'm just trying to learn as much as I can. Taking all the classes in IUP definitely helped me a lot with what I'm hoping for.

Besides, you might be curious why don't I pick Computer Science instead of Management Information System. Management Information System offers me two different fields, business and technology.  Since I was strongly influenced by my businessman dad and this major just works perfectly for me. Anyway, I would still love to be a IT technician. Even though it can be frustrating sometimes when I couldn't fix it especially a programming error. However, when it was fixed, the feeling of it was great especially when I saw the happiness and smile on the customers. In the future, I would like to own my business. It will most probably related to IT. I still have a long way to go and hopefully my goal can be accomplished in no time.

My Career Path

I am a Hospitality Major. I really hope that once I graduate I can move south and work as a hotel/resort manager. I would love to be in charge of the front desk and working directly with customers. I think that I would make a good manager of a hotel or resort because I work well with others. You must know how to do this because you are working with a staff and you need to of course be their boss but you also want to be able to relate to them and be able to work with them if you want a smooth running operation. I also think I would be good at this because I am a little bit of a people pleaser. I love to see people happy and I think if I work for a resort or somewhere in the tourism field I would get to make a lot of people happy. I think that to make the customer good memories you must be able to make their stay at your hotel/resort a happy stay. Lastly I think an important skill I have to strive in this field is organization. If you are going to be a manager you must have a plan for everything and everything must be organized. You must have a plan for if there is a fire, robbery, death, short staff, etc and you must know how to stay calm when things are happening which I am also very good at. Organization also comes into play because you deal with a lot of different tasks and you must know where your files are for each thing. This is just a brief summary as to why I think that I will make a good hotel manager one day

Who Am I?

I'm an international student who is majoring in Management Information System in IUP. I also have a minor in Applied Statistics as well. I have been in the states for more than two years now. During breaks, I usually just travel around the states. I had visited most of the the big cities and attractions in United States. I love all of them and it was so interesting and fun to travel around here. It's really an eye opener for me to study abroad and travel here .I hope I could study abroad again or visit some other countries in the near future as I really love to travel and know the cultures.

Who Am I?

Slickville is my hometown. My first job was at a deli when I was 15. I love working with people in many roles, mostly as an educator and leader. I consider myself a life long learner, adventurist and an artist. I am an aspiring instructional designer and hope to move west once I graduate.

Who Am I?

One day I will buy a farmhouse and have a pack of dogs who run in the fields, cats who lay in windowsills, flowerbeds full of sunflowers and azaleas, goats who I milk in the morning, chickens who lay speckled brown eggs and children with wavy brown hair and my fiances blue eyes. We will make strawberry and blueberry jam in the summers and sleep under homemade quilts. On clear nights, we will lay in the grass and look up at the constellations and listen to the crickets, basking in the vastness of our universe and the beauty of creation.

Who Am I?

I’m doing my bachelor’s degree in General Management with a minor in MIS. I decided to come to the United States for college because I wanted to learn from a wide variety of people and become more independent. This is my senior year at IUP and I have a few projects in mind before I graduate. One of my plans is to get an IT certification in database management. I used to think that working with computers was hard and tedious, but after working in Eberly for a year, I started to become interested in computers and IT problems.

Who Am I?

My major is Criminology and I am possibly thinking about minoring in Sociology. I am interested in a lot of things, mostly volleyball and meeting new people. I also like learning new interesting things that I can use during everyday life. In the future I would like to possibly work for the FBI as a Criminal Investigator or maybe even a Criminal Profiler or something along those lines. Thank you.

Who Am I?

In 2008 I got a contract to work In United Arab Emarates as a teacher and went to the International Schools of Chouifat in Dubai-UAE , I tought business studies and economics classes for one year and then I came here to get may MBA degree because this has been always my dream to come to USA and complete my higher education ".

Who Am I?

I’m a communications media major. I don’t really know where I want to go with that yet. I do have some ideas, but nothing’s set in stone. I find myself more and more interested in international affairs, though. I think I may want to pursue something with that. Although, I would also like to state that I don’t plan on going into the work force straight after I graduate. I’m going to travel the world for about a year, mostly Europe and Africa. My traveling companion is from Africa, so I figure, why not start there.

Who Am I?

I love italian food so naturally my favorite restaurant would be Olive Garden. People are amazed by how much I can eat there because I always finish my entire plate. I love there fettachini alfredo and there raviolis those are my two favorite dishes. There is one artist that I absolutely love, Taylor Swift. She was actually my first concert. I was never at a concert till this June. It was absolutely amazing.

Who Am I?

I’m from Huntingdon, PA, which is an hour and a half west of Indiana. My interests include sports and technology. The sports I like to watch are basketball and football. The Steelers and Pittsburgh Panthers are the teams I like to root for the most. My goals after this year are simple. Hopefully I land a job in the IT field out near Pittsburgh area. After three or four years with a steady job, I plan on being engaged.

Who Am I?

My ultimate goal is to live comfortably with wife and kids. I don’t need to be richest man alive or anything like that because to be honest I wouldn’t know what to do with all that money, I’d probably spend it on dumb things. I just want to live comfortably, me and my family. Coming here opened my eyes and brought to my attention that there are a lot of ways to make money we just have to work hard, being a doctor is not the only way.

This Social Media Conversation...

I know we've moved on pass the social media discussion.. But I'd like to make one more post about it.. I notice that everyone is saying pretty much the same thing.. "It's good..I can stay connected.. It's bad (insert various reason about lies, depiction etc.)"..

And I noticed someone said something along the lines of dependability on social media.. I ask you guys to think of this.. In current times, not back in yesteryear when people didn't have the things we have now, if we were to lose every social media(all in one instant), how do you think the world would end up? There would be anarchy.. You guys don't think we're dependent on it now, but honestly think, no phones, no internet, no television or radio.. I know people who wouldn't know how to function.. If you haven't noticed.. We rely so heavily on it.. It's become the norm and we take full advantage of it.. And now falls into the "you don't know what you have til it's gone" category...

So, I just wanted to say, one day, this will all be gone.. And, well, what are you gonna do then??

-K.Francis

This video is about technology.. But it goes to prove the same point..

Videos that I think Inspire..

I think this video is one among many that mean a lot to me.. My mom showed it to me once a while ago, and then it came up again when I was having an argument with a friend about whether or not animals have souls, feelings/personal attachments etc.. And this just reminds me about why life in general is so fascinating..

P.S. I'm sure most of you have seen this.. But this is also an awesomely cute video that shows that human parents aren't the only parents with that "mother nurture" thing...

What a touching commercial!

I went home this winter break and saw this touching commercial on TV during Chinese New Year. Some part of the audio might be in Cantonese or English but it has English subtitles in it. Anyway, the reason why I put this on is this commercial had strongly brought out the meaningful message to the society today. Hope you guys like it!

Social Media

Social media has been playing such an important role in this era. I believe everyone has some sort of social media account such as Facebook, Twitter and etc. Social media brought a lot of advantages to today's life. Nowadays, companies started to advertise their products on those social media website especially Facebook. People get to know the most updated news and products from their favorite companies. Both parties get to achieve their goals through just a page in Facebook. How convenient it is! Besides, social media had been helping me a lot. The reason is I get to keep in touch with all my family and friends at home in Malaysia and other countries. I get to talk and know how they are doing lately with just through a page of Facebook.

Of course social media also brings in some disadvantages. Social media provides so much of convenience to people. However, such convenience might bring in danger to someone and even reduce the privacy of a person. For instance, Facebook users love to check in where they are now. With this features, it actually allows someone else to know where you are and criminal might take this chance to rob your house or even doing something more severe to hurt you.

In conclusion, social media has its good and bad side. We as the users just need to use them with a more conscious and productive way.

Kittens :)

This will make your heart explode.

My Thoughts on Social Media

The media source media that I will be talking about is social networks. Honestly I have a love/hate feeling towards social networks. I feel like people don't utilize them the way it should be used. I don't know if there's really a right way to use social networks but if It was up to me to say how to use them it would not be the way people do now. I just feel like people especially student are too glued to social networks
The reason why I love it is because social networks (i.e Facebook) allow me to still stay connected to family and friends that are not around or just too far to call or go visit. Allow me to still be a part of their lives and stay updated on whats new in their lives. That is the only reason why I really use Facebook and I believe that should be the right way. People nowadays could be on Facebook or any other social networks for that matter for hours, not doing anything. Its gotten to the point now where they allowed it to play so much of big role in their lives that a world with out social networks would be almost impossible for them. I actually heard a few people saying that.
The main reason for my hate feeling towards social networks is because i feel like its taking away one of the most important skill that we need to be able to build a strong relationship with someone; that is communication. I remember last summer while i was taking summer classes in Indiana there was a power outage and most of Indiana was without any electricity. Me and a couple of my friends were in the living room with out phone using it as a source of light to see one another. During that 15 or 20 minutes we were just sitting there holding a long conversation and talking about everything, laughing just a real genuine moment. As soon as the power came back on everybody just scattered and on the computer on twitter, Facebook, talking about what just happened. My friend Sarah noticed what I noticed and actually said something about it she said "its crazy how it took the power outage to get all of us to sit together and talk" It is crazy!!. See being from Haiti we're not preoccupied by social networks and other types of media really so the communication skill is strongly reinforced. I just wish this generation would not be so preoccupied and glued in the social media or any media for that matter.

The Story Of a Sign

My English 101 professor showed the class this video, it's is so beautiful how words can change something or someone so drastically.

This is a seminar that illustrates how to better manage time , this is really helpful especially to those who are having trouble related to time constraints .

WHERE GOOD IDEAS COME FROM

This is rather fitting for our discussion on social media. Plus it's animated, check it out!
